@tytheglamking: Luxury Hair and Makeup Artistry in Atlanta

@tytheglamking is a luxury hair and makeup artist based in Atlanta, working under the name Ty The Glam King. His Instagram bio lists him as an IATSE Local 798 member, the stagehand and behind-the-scenes union that covers hair, makeup, and costume professionals in film, television, and live production, alongside a note that he is a published hair and makeup artist. With around 21,000 followers, his feed sits at the size where a working artist’s day-to-day client roster and an editorial portfolio start to overlap: big enough to be a real marketing channel, small enough that most of what shows up is still actual client work rather than sponsored content.

What they post and how

The account is organized the way a booking-driven artist would organize it. Saved highlights split the work into categories: Bridal, Published, Before N After, and Celebs, which map closely to the actual services a luxury hair and makeup business sells. Someone landing on the profile does not have to scroll through a random feed to figure out whether this artist handles weddings, editorial shoots, dramatic transformations, or high-profile clients; the highlight row answers that in a few taps. The featured post is a short, humor-driven clip of him finishing a client’s style with a hand mirror in a high-rise space overlooking the Atlanta skyline, captioned as a joke about a client who almost left without paying. It is a good example of how he mixes finished glam looks with lighter, personality-driven moments from the chair rather than posting only polished after-shots, which is a common gap in accounts run by artists who are excellent with a client but treat social media as an afterthought.

Why it works

Hair and makeup artists compete on trust as much as on skill, and this profile is built to signal both. The union credential and the “published” note give a client scrolling through Instagram a reason to believe the before-and-afters are not staged for the app; IATSE membership in particular is not something an artist can casually claim, since it comes from working union productions rather than from a course or a certificate purchased online. The Before N After highlight does the direct comparison work that sells the service, while the Bridal and Celebs sections tell a prospective client what kind of booking this artist is actually set up to handle, which matters in a market where “luxury” is claimed far more often than it is demonstrated. Layering in short, funny behind-the-scenes clips like the featured post keeps the account from reading like a static portfolio, and it gives people a reason to keep following even between bookings, rather than checking in only when they need to hire someone.

What you can learn from this profile

A few habits carry over well to any local service-based Instagram account. First, organize highlights by what a client is actually deciding between, not by date or event name, so a first-time visitor can find bridal work, published work, or transformations in one tap instead of scrolling through months of posts. Second, put real, verifiable credentials in the bio instead of vague self-praise; a union membership or publication credit does more work than an adjective like “top” or “elite,” because it is something a skeptical client could actually go check. Third, don’t post finished looks exclusively: a short, funny moment from an actual session, like the mirror clip here, gives followers a reason to keep watching beyond the next glam transformation and makes the account feel like a real business rather than a curated gallery. Fourth, keep the location in the bio front and center when the business itself is location-based, since “Atlanta” is doing real work for a hair and makeup artist who needs local bookings rather than an audience scattered across the country.

None of this replaces an actual consultation with an artist, but it is a useful blueprint for how a working professional can use Instagram as a portfolio and a booking tool at the same time, rather than treating the two as separate efforts. For a creator at this stage, the account is already doing the harder part, which is turning a genuine, verifiable body of work into a feed that a stranger can evaluate in under a minute.
